RESERVES + RE-ENTRY POINTS

ECOSYSTEM RECONSTRUCTION DOESN’T END WITH REFORESTATION.

As part of our continued commitment to the projects we complete, some plant sites are converted to what we call ‘re-entry points’ after habitat spaces are restored. After the flora that makes up a habitat’s foundation has been replaced, often species native to the area can find it hard to reclaim their historical range if habitat areas are not continuous or closely adjacent. That’s where we come in. Roarke takes areas we have replaced native plants in and allows them to be used as reintroduction locations for rehabilitated wildlife, as well as fauna that has been fostered specifically to bolster populations. These re-entry points provide a safe, protected environment for native fauna to resettle an area, as well as a bastion of protected space should overdevelopment encroach on preexisting local habitat space. We have locations as far West as Colorado ranging all the way to the Eastern tip of Maine.

In addition, Roarke also maintains a few private preserves dedicated to specific flora and fauna types. These areas are used exclusively to provide consistent habitat zones for more vulnerable species to flourish and continue to repopulate in an effort to mitigate local population decline. Many of these locations are reclaimed agricultural or logging land that would otherwise remain vacant, missing out on years of potential carbon sequestration and stability for local fauna.

Roarke works hard to ensure that habitat spaces are closed to the public, particularly in areas where protected species include wild game that attract trespassers and poachers. Our goal is always to preserve land in the healthiest version of its natural state for as long as possible—and sometimes that means restrictions. While we do thoroughly endorse immersive outdoor education, Roarke parcels are visited only by invited guests or researchers who are willing to abide by the strictures put in place to protect habitat areas.
