STOCK + SECURITIES
YOU WANT TO HELP US—LET US HELP KEEP YOU LIQUID.
Donations of stock are a great way to remain liquid while avoiding the frustrations of Capital Gains Tax. Roarke accepts direct transfers of stock through Fidelity, allowing for a cost-free and direct transaction. Stock donors are notified of their value, per IRS regulation, through a notification letter mailed to the address provided through Fidelity, unless otherwise specified.
For any publicly traded security (like most stock), Fair Market Value is directly equivalent to the value at the time of transfer, avoiding much of the headache with other forms of complex donation. While you will likely receive a confirmation from your own brokerage as well as Fidelity, Roarke, as mentioned above, will additionally confirm the trade’s completion via email and a notification letter mailed to the address filled in our donor form.
Donors can submit direct transfers through this three step process:
Contact your brokerage account or initiate a transfer. You will need the following information:
Fidelity’s Depository Trust Company (DTC) Number: 0226
Name on Recipient Account: Roarke Regenerative Land Management
Account Number: 39900000740572726
Once a transfer is initiated, please email Roarke any confirmation materials you may have that bear your account number and name, as transaction numbers for verification. Please include your full legal name (or entity name for corporate donors), mailing address, and any additional information you feel is relevant.
Standby for the transaction to processed. Roarke will contact you via the email thread with a confirmation, as well as an IRS-compliant notification letter for your records. A separate physical notification letter will be mailed to you shortly after.
While your brokerage may have restrictions as far as timeline of release, Fidelity initiates transfers as soon as possible. For donors with large contributions or large volume of shares, often visiting a Fidelity location in person can provide an expedited and curated experience.
Donors wishing to remain anonymous can submit stock through a similar fashion, though beware that Donor Advised Funds or your own brokerage may disclose your information inadvertently through the donation process. Roarke will not publicly disclose the information or identity of those wishing to remain anonymous, but may be in possession of that information by no fault of our own.
Have questions or need assistance? Fill the below form or contact donations@roarke.org to be relayed to a specialist. All inquiries will be answered with 24 hours of their submission.
STOCK DONATION ASSISTANCE FORM
TERMS
Once submitted, stock is not eligible for return. Attempts to falsely claim incomplete transfers on tax-forms will be reported to the IRS as part of Roarke’s required annual reporting.
Failure to properly fill forms processed through Fidelity or submitted in correspondence with Roarke may cause partial or total loss of assets. Roarke is not liable for errors in submitted information. Please ensure that your information is correct before submitting, or that any errors are noted and amended before moving the process along.
Stock donations are treated in-house as a cash donation, and discretion as to when to sell is left to Roarke. If you wish to donate stock as an endowment with restrictions, please contact stock-donations@roarke.org with the specifics of your request. Endowments must allow for at least a partial value of the stock to be accessed within a fiscal year of the donation, whether through dividends or partial sale.
In addition, Fidelity’s restrictions state that we cannot accept the following:
Bulletin board or pink sheet stocks with a share price of $0.25 or less.
Bulletin board or pink sheet stocks with a market capitalization of less than $25 million.
Domestic issues that carry the pink sheet Over-the-Counter (OTC) market tiers of Grey Market, Expert Market, Caveat Emptor, or OTC No-Information.
*Donations to 501(c)(3) organizations are tax-deductible to US filers, however, consult with your tax professional to ensure you can access the maximum value of your donation.
